America's Most Wanted is throwing itself a party of sorts tonight — it's marking its 1000th capture (actually the 1000th capture stemming from publicity generated by the show; host John Walsh doesn't make the arrests himself). That's an average of almost two a week since
AMW debuted in 1988. Of course, the guest of dishonor, Dwight Smith of New York City, who was wanted for the May 2007 murder of a business associate, won't be on hand. Smith was arrested April 19 in Colonial Heights, Va. He was nabbed that Saturday just two hours after that night's
AMW telecast. —
