"The Day the Earth Stood Still" - New Trailer
By: Film Gecko    0 days 6 hours 44 minutes ago
Channel: Entertainment Film & TV

A new trailer for The Day the Earth Stood Still was released by 20th Century Fox this week. The remake of the 1951 classic hits theaters December 12, 2008, and stars Keanu Reeves as Klaatu, an alien whose arrival on our planet triggers a global upheaval.

As governments and scientists race to unravel the mystery of his appearance, a woman (Jennifer Connelly) and her young stepson get caught up in his mission and come to understand the ramifications of his being a self-described “friend to the Earth.”

It looks pretty good, even though Keanu Reeves always seems like he’s playing the same role over and over.

Check out the trailer below, or click here to watch it in High Definition QuickTime and standard QuickTime sizes.

Jay Leno to Dustin Hoffman: "Dopey Actors" - VIDEO
By: Film Gecko    0 days 7 hours 15 minutes ago

Dustin Hoffman was on Jay Leno last night, talking up Kung Fu Panda, in which he voices a part. On the subject of voiceovers, Hoffman doesn’t like them, because there’s no interaction with other actors. Leno, on the other hand, loves them because he doesn’t have to talk to “dopey actors.” I love Dustin Hoffman because he never takes himself too seriously. Take a look:

Will There be a "Friends" Movie?
By: Film Gecko    1 days 1 hours 52 minutes ago

jenaniston1 The U.K.’s Guardian is reporting a rumor that there may be a “Friends” movie coming to theaters. It wouldn’t surprise me if more popular shows jumped on the bandwagon after the success of Sex and the City.

Warner Bros. has reportedly green-lit a feature-length overhaul of the hit TV sitcom about six bantering Manhattan buddies.

I wonder if they’d pick up a few years later, like Sex and the City did. I never really watched Friends — just hit and miss here and there — so guess I can’t get too excited about this one just yet.

Kilmer, Xzibit Get "Bad"
By: Film Gecko    1 days 2 hours 5 minutes ago

valkilmer1 I had to check and see the last film Val Kilmer did, because it seems like he’s been absent lately. Sure enough, he’s done some. I just haven’t seen any of them: Delgo, Conspiracy, and Columbus Day, to name a few.

He must be running short on cash, because he has a slew of movies coming up. Check out his IMDB.com page.

Now Kilmer, Fairuza Balk, Jennifer Coolidge, Vondie Curtis Hall, Shawn Hatosy, Denzel Whitaker and Xzibit are set to join Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendez in Werner Herzog’s cop drama “Bad Lieutenant.”

I must be really out of it, because The Hollywood Reporter is calling this a remake of a cult classic (Abel Ferrara), and I’ve never even heard of it. The original 1992 film followed the adventures of a corrupt cop (Harvey Keitel) investigating the rape of a nun. The new film will feature Cage as the crooked cop and capture the spirit of the original, with the protagonist’s drug intake, accepting sexual favors as bribes and other elements that endeared so many to the 1992 version.

Wow, I’m having a not-welcome flashback to Training Day, that awful film with Denzel Washington as the bad cop. Ok, it wasn’t awful, but it was kind of a sick and twisted movie, and I just didn’t like it.

Hope this movie is better. Sure lots of talent involved. Filming is set to begin later this summer. My favorite Val Kilmer role? Doc Holliday in Tombstone, hands down.
