1939′s George Cukor classic is the basis for this Diane English-directed remake. Meg Ryan, Annette Bening, Jada Pinkett Smith, Debra Messing, Candice Bergen, Bette Midler, Cloris Leachman, and Carrie Fisher star in this film about a group of catty high-society women who live for gossip, fashion, and salon appointments. One day, the kind, happily-married Mary Haines (Ryan) finds her marriage threatened by a conniving sales assistant named Crystal Allen (Mendes) who has all but stolen her husband from her. Mary’s “friend”, Sylvie Fowler (Bening), has a field day with this tidbit but soon finds out what it’s like to be on the other end of the gossip. Meanwhile, Mary works out a way to give Crystal her just desserts and win back her wayward man. This film is release Oct. 10.
